CITY DAILY PGOTO FEBRUARY THEME - POWER

Ever hear a recording of Miles Davis' Jack Johnson? That's power. This statue of Davis stands in his home town of Alton, Illinois, just upriver from St. Louis. The pose is drawn from the album cover of that piece. Worth a look and a listen - https://youtu.be/3U_jem9q_mg

STL DPB ON THE ROAD - WAIT, WEREN'T WE IN COSTA RICA?

Yes, we were in warm and sunny Costa Rica but now we are in cold and snowy New York. There is something special going on in this specific place tonight and, with the freedom of retirement, I'm going to be there.

STL DPB ON THE ROAD - DEADHEADS IN PARADISE

Playa Grande is immediately north of Playa Tamarindo across a modest estuary. There is no bridge and the only way to get there is to drive a way inland and then back out to the shore. Much of the area  is nature preserve and development is limited.

There is a hotel and restaurant where the road ends we have visited for lunch a couple of times. It had a new owner and concept and is now the Grateful Hotel. Grateful Dead imagery abounds, along with a little R Crumb thrown in for good measure. Is this  pura vida?

STL DPB ON THE ROAD - NEW NEIGHBOR

The apartment building where we stayed in Tamarindo has six stories. Each unit has a large balcony at the corner with an awning off the sides. We were on the top floor, so the next apartment's awning was immediately beneath us. One morning we looked out and found this large grasshopper, perhaps  4 in / 10 cm, just sitting there. It sat all day. It was there after lunch. It was there after we canMe back from a walk on the beach. It hardly moved the whole time. By the time we returned from dinner it had found another perch. At least we got to say hello.

STL DPB ON THE ROAD - BY POPULAR ACCLAIM

Swim noodles on the catamaran that took us on the sunset cruise a few days ago. Not my favorite picture from the trip by any means but it got far more views on Flickr than any of my other shots. No disputing individual taste.
