Pick your favourite photo

Supporting homeless people through art and photography, Cafe Art has helped even more people this year with the calendar project.  Over 100 disposable cameras were given to homeless people with the brief to take photos of their London over a period of five days.

A panel of judges from across the arts world then selected their top twenty from which thirteen images will be selected to create the cafe art calendar for 2017.  You can partake in this selection by voting for your favourite.  The images and voting booth are currently on display at Spitalfields Market.  Not only are the overall top twenty on display but every photographer has their own personal top five on show.  You can see what a tough time the judges had selecting from so many talented photographers.

The calendar will be on sale shortly.  I'll keep you posted to let you know where you can buy your copy.  All the proceeds from the sale of the calendar go into creating the following years calendar, 100 were helped this year, how many can you help next year?

A Bottle Restored

Just north of downtown, a couple of vacant lots beyond the football-dome-without-a-team, lies a rehaber's fantasy called The Bottle District. It proved to be another St. Louis restoration project that fizzled.

The name comes from a local icon, a huge model of a bottle of Vess Lemon Lime soda. Vess is a soft drink brand that has been made and sold in St. Louis for a century. The bottle has been there for as long as I can remember and had become rather decrepit. With no fanfare, someone brought it back to mint condition earlier this summer. Don't know who or why. Maybe it's a good sign.

Friday farmers market in Meitar

.

A farmers market, in Meitar!
It has happened every Friday morning for the last three weeks, and each time it gets bigger and better.

These cheeses came all the way from Hanoked, a farm in the north, near Akko.
The sign says "boutique cheeses."

In the center of town is the Mercaz, the commercial center.
A few stores and the Local Council (like a city hall or municipality, IF we were a city).
Now it is mid afternoon and everything is closed for the Sabbath; businesses and offices will open again on Sunday.
Shabbat shalom, Sabbath peace to you.

The Very New Underpass

London is a city of contrasts, yesterday an image of a house more than 300 years old, today an image of the underpass at Kings Cross station that is a mere couple of years old, leading into a station that is 150 years old.

Valiant

The now-defunct Plymouth division of Chrysler Corporation had a popular model called the Valiant from 1960 to 1976. It was well-made and Chrysler sold a lot of them. This antique, in excellent condition, was parked across the street the boots in Wednesday's picture. Haven't seen one in a long, long time.
As the Wikipedia article in the link above mentions, in 1976 Chrysler replaced the Valiant with a new model called the Volare (to fly in Italian). It was a piece of junk by comparison and nearly put Chrysler out of business. We know. Mrs. C and I bought one.
