Early Autumn Shot

Ich war auf dem Weinwanderweg oberhalb des Neckars unterwegs. Ein sehr schöner Weg mit beeindruckenden Ausblicken.
I was on the move at the vineyard trail above the Neckar. It's a wonderful pathway which offers impressive views.

Karoo koppies - Koffiebus and Teebus

The flat top koppies (mountains) of the Karoo is as part of this arid region of the country as windpompe, Angora goats, Karoo lamb, flowering aloes and big open skies.  Two of the best known Karoo koppies are the Koffiebus and Teebus south of the town of Steynsburg.

The word "Bus" means pot in old Dutch as the hills are said to look like the old teapots and coffee pots of the early Dutch Settlers.  This means that if you had to translate, let's say, one of the names, the mountain would be called "Coffee Pot" or "Coffee Caddy".  I really enjoy driving this particular road, the R390 between Steynsburg and Hofmeyr, when heading back to the coast from up north.  Perhaps for one specific reason. Stopping to take a photo of the koppies.

An Outdoor Exhibition

You can enjoy an exhibition and the sunshine all at the same time.

A unique glimpse behind the scenes of the performances and rehearsals of the students at the Royal College Opera By the River is fabulous photo essay by photographer Edmond Terakopia.  A selection of 62 images taken over a period of seven months that captures the intimate and revealing moments of the orchestra, singers and production team as they develop and perform Albert Herring by Benjamin Brittien.

On until 11 October 2015.

Well, Duh

Great Forest Park Balloon Race 2015-09-19 12

Oops, didn't get the job done yesterday. The usual day at work, then spent the evening at the Washington University psychology department, where I am a participant in a long term study on the affects of aging on personality. My goal is to screw up the curve.

So anyway, back to the balloons for a bit. This is what the event is all about, isn't it? But, as the saying goes, what comes up must go down. Entropy always wins in the end.

There is an overwhelming amount of things to shoot here this weekend, sidewalk chalk art events in both the University City Loop and Benton Park, the annual artists studio open house and the ever-wacky Grovefest in the eponymous neighborhood. How much can I get to?

A stream meandered through it

This is a few hundred metres walk from the Sydney Town Hall, nominally the centre of our historic heart. It is an old water course, but all is not what it seems. The contours are bulldozed into shape, rather than crafted by coursing water from the escarpments behind. Even just 30 years ago, I recall using this area with its double-layers of street parking, as an often-available car spot.

But pretty it looks now. It has the bed of the Yurong Stream "out" by about 100m, too far west. This is very close to the Water Gardens of yesterday, and adjacent to the Cathedral approach I will show you tomorrow.
