Sea Dog

A four-month-old husky named Michelle swims in the waters off Tulamben, Bali. Novrizal Herdananto captured this “lucky” shot while on a dive vacation with Michelle’s owner. “Every time we went for a dive, we always found her at the beach when we returned to the surface,” Herdananto writes. He adds that once she was introduced to the water, it turned out that she enjoyed riding the waves.

Hedananto’s shot was recently featured in the Daily Dozen.

Glebe - Destined for landfill

It used to be a three-storey mansion but has settled, over the decades, into being a derelict old house. There are some items of note, some detritus worth saving. Such as these small lead-lights, but little else. The crumbling stables out the back excited me more.

Word-of-mouth has it that the block cost the developer $11 million. He must have known there was a heritage order on it. But he is plugging away at the council. There is little to recommend the structure, except that the town-houses that replace it will last less than 50 years. Everything is built to decay nowadays.

"Naturally luxurious" sheepskins

.

You know you're in Australia if the huge Costco store sells sheepskins.
Amazingly smooth wool in various colors.
A rug costs 180 Australian dollars.

Populations: The sheep-to-person ratio in New Zealand is over 7 to 1, and in Australia there are almost 5 sheep to every human.
This ratio is high compared to most countries, but sheep numbers are now on the decline in both NZ and Australia.

(For ABC Wednesday, H is for a heap of sheepskins.)
